WesleyLife Meals on Wheels
More than Just Meals
Every day, WesleyLife Meals on Wheels directly supports the health, vitality and independence of more than 900 adults living in Greater Des Moines through delivery of a nutritious meal to their front doors, with close to 230,000 meals delivered each year.
All meals are heart-healthy and low-sodium, and follow specific diets. Our dedicated team of drivers and volunteers deliver meals between 10:45 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. Monday through Friday, with frozen weekend packages available for delivery on Friday.
The WesleyLife Meals on Wheels program delivers meals in a fleet of 22 MINIs (a small economy car), which was made possible through a partnership between two nonprofit health and wellness organizations, UnityPoint Health-Des Moines and WesleyLife.
Drivers deliver so much more than a meal. Drivers are trained to deliver warm hellos while checking on the safety of their clients. Because a driver may be the only person a client sees during the day, it is not uncommon for drivers to find a client in need of immediate help due to a fall or medical emergency.

Front door delivery
Meals are prepared in our own kitchen and hand-delivered by drivers and volunteers, Monday through Friday, on 22 routes throughout Greater Des Moines. Friday deliveries include weekend meals.
Our courteous, friendly drivers deliver a warm hello with each meal and check on the safety of their clients.
Eligibility for Meals on Wheels
Meals on Wheels focuses on caring for individuals whose diminished mobility makes it hard to shop for food, prepare meals or socialize with others. Generally, the program serves adults 60 and over, although limited funding is also available for adults with disabilities, and younger spouses and persons with disabilities living in the house.
Meals are available at an already low cost, but that cost may be further reduced or eliminated altogether due to a client's financial circumstances.
First Step meal program
If you are recovering from an illness or surgery and would like meals delivered on a short-term basis, our First Step meal program may benefit you. Anyone age 60 or older, regardless of income, is welcome to receive five free home-delivered meals following a hospital stay as part of our First Step meal program.

How to make an impact
The public-private partnership supporting the Meals on Wheels movement is one of the most effective models in America. It enables older adults to remain more healthy and independent in their own homes, where they want to be, avoiding far more costly healthcare alternatives.
During 2015, about 85 percent of WesleyLife Meals on Wheels were provided at low or no cost. This would not have been possible without the charitable giving of individuals and businesses.
If you are an individual, consider donating the cost of a dinner ($6.50) or a week's worth of meals ($45.50). Every donation makes a difference.
If you would like to make a more substantial gift or represent a business who wants to make a direct impact on the lives of persons in your community, donate online or contact one of our philanthropy representatives for assistance.
