"Professional and respectful care, encouraging attitudes, smiles, understanding and sympathy throughout the days of a terminal illness are what WesleyLife Hospice Care provided my loved one and my family. Their presence at the funeral and afterwards with personal visits, where they gave a listening ear and a shoulder to cry on, gave me comfort and strength to go forward with my life."

Support for Loved Ones

Are you a caregiver?

There are as many different types of caregivers as there are people lending a hand to assist a loved one, family member or friend. You may not think of yourself as such, but you are a central member of the team providing care and support.

In addition to traditional hospice care, WesleyLife Hospice offers a range of programs to meet your needs and the needs of the person you are caring for at different stages of illness and caregiving. Caregiver support is available to any caregiver within our service area -- and by phone if you are outside of the geographic service location of WesleyLife Hospice. The person you are caring for does not have to be a WesleyLife Hospice client.

One-to-one counseling is also available for persons adjusting to a new diagnosis or prognosis or living with a serious illness.

BearsRememBEARance program

WesleyLife’s RememBEARance program was created as a way to share the gift of healing and comfort with bereaved family members.

The program uses volunteers, who also have experienced the loss of a loved one, to create a pillow or clothing for a teddy bear from a loved one’s favorite clothing.  If a family member expresses a wish for a RememBEARance of their loved one, WesleyLife Hospice will connect them with a volunteer who will create a lasting remembrance based on their wishes.

Family members can choose how much they wish to be involved in the creative process. Volunteers stand willing and ready to meet the needs of each person.

To learn more about commemorating a loss with a remembrance item or about WesleyLife Hospice's volunteer program, contact WesleyLife Hospice at (515) 271-6765.

Grief support

Grief support

Although grief and loss are a natural part of living, we are never ready to lose a loved one. A great loss can seem overwhelming.  Whether it’s one-to-one or a small group setting, grief support at WesleyLife can aid you on your journey and equip you with the resources and friendships needed to go forward – one step at a time, one day at a time. All are welcome to attend an informal group, where you can learn from others who understand the pain of loss.  We support each other. We learn from each other. We honor our stories, and in so doing, we grow from our grief.
