Facts about WesleyLife

  • WesleyLife traces its beginnings to July 7, 1947, when the South Iowa Methodist Church Conference established Wesley Acres Inc. to provide retirement living for aging ministers and their spouses.  
  • Today, WesleyLife is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit operating a comprehensive health and wellness network that promotes the independence, health, and well-being of older Iowans, wherever they call home.
  • WesleyLife operates 11 communities in Iowa and Illinois; our 12th will open in 2021 in Bettendorf, Iowa. All communities offer independent living, assisted living, memory care options, and health centers that provide both long-term care and short-term rehabilitation services. 
  • WesleyLife’s robust network of services includes an ever-growing array of home-based solutions, including Home Health, Hospice Services, In-Home Services, Transportation via Wesley Wheels, Nutrition via WesleyLife Meals on Wheels, and Public Health Nursing Services. 
  • WesleyLife operates Adult Day Centers in Des Moines, Newton, and Washington, Iowa, providing services, programming and companionship five days a week to individuals 45 and older, most with memory challenges, while their family caregivers are at work or fulfilling other responsibilities. Participants may qualify for Medicaid waiver programs and other funding options.
  • WesleyLife employs more than 1,500 passionate team members throughout western, central, and southeast Iowa, and another 200 in the Quad Cities of Iowa and Illinois via WellSpire. 
  • WesleyLife’s headquarters is based in Johnston, Iowa. Our Home and Community-Based Services network is based in Urbandale and in the Sherman Hill area of Des Moines.
  • WesleyLife is a member of Unity Point’s Accountable Care Organization and partners with The Iowa Clinic to support patient needs.
