WesleyLife Celebrates Its Christian Heritage

and Founding 68 Years Ago

July 6, 2015 - WesleyLife, as a workplace, home to many and service provider to older adults, sets itself apart from other organizations because of its faith, nonprofit business philosopy and moral responsibility to provide its neighbors with the services they want, wherever they call home.

It's a place where individuals have the opportunity to embrace the theology taught by John Wesley, who stressed the life of Christian holiness; to love God with all one's heart, mind, soul and strengths; and to love one's neighbor as oneself.

John Wesley (1703-1791) was an Anglican divine and theologian, and co-founder of the evangelical movement known as Methodism. His father, Samuel, was a priest, and his mother, Susanna, taught religion and morals faithfully to her 19 children. His religious upbringing and relationship with the Church of England inspired Wesley to take his ministry to the people --- to preach outdoors. As his ministry traveled across Great Britain, North America and Ireland, he helped to form and organize small Christian groups who focused on personal accountability, discipleship and religious instruction.  He traveled over 4,000 miles annually, preaching some 40,000 sermons in his lifetime.

One of Wesley's most famous aphorisms is: "Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can."

This inspirational message, which is also prominently displayed at WesleyLife's headquarters in Johnston, has been the focus of daily devotionals shared with team members, residents, families and others during WesleyLife Week 2015. Featured below are the heartfelt and moving devotionals.
