1988 Newton Retirement Foundation reports plans for a "100-unit Continuing Care Facility" in Newton.
1988 Wesley Retirement Services, Inc., Des Moines, announces its agreement to develop a Newton retirement community with plans for 60 apartment and town house units, plus a health care center and helpful living apartments.
1990 Wesley Retirement Services announces that Park Centre is "a definite go." It will include 48 independent living, 20 helpful living units, and 30 intermediate-care nursing home beds.
1990 Expansion to Original Plan: 15 more independent apartments are added to the project. An October Glory Maple Tree is donated by Wesley Retirement Services to the founding members of the Park Centre community.
1991 Construction of the $13 million facility begins.
1992 First independent resident moves into Park Centre. Grand Opening held in September.
1993 Expansion: A townhome community is planned as an addition to Park Centre. The groundbreaking ceremony is held soon after.
1996 Expansion: A groundbreaking ceremony is held for a 27-unit Independent Living addition to Park Centre.
2000 Expansion: Groundbreaking is held for Garden View, an Alzheimer's care unit addition.
2003 Expansion: 16 additional Assisted Living apartments are added to Park Centre.
2004 New Service: Purchased Park Centre bus to provide residents with transportation services and day trip capabilities.
2009 Expansion: Renovation of Residential Care, providing 18 deluxe, all-private suites for short term skilled rehabilitation.
