Did you know that through a community betterment grant from Prairie Meadows, people age 60 or older who are discharged from a hospital or short-term rehabilitation center are eligible to receive 3 complimentary meals from WesleyLife Meals on Wheels?
"WesleyLife is extremely grateful for the generosity of this grant from Prairie Meadows," Shannon Draayer, executive director of community nutrition for WesleyLife, says. "The money directly helps Des Moines-area older adults by providing nutritious meals during a critical time in their recovery, allowing them to regain their strength and well-being while remaining independent in their own homes."
Research shows two weeks is the average amount of time an older adult needs to regain strength and return to regular activities, including preparing meals, after a hospital or rehabilitation stay. Receiving meals through Meals on Wheels' temporary program can provide people with optimal nutrition to help them recover more quickly, lessening the chance of re-hospitalization.
