"We won't ever have to lose each other." accent

April 8, 2026 | By

A few years ago, Marilyn Kaufman found herself at a crossroads. Her husband had just passed away. She was staying with her daughter, grieving and unsure what came next.

She chose Heritage House in Atlantic for simple reasons: It was close to her daughter,
just 10 minutes away. The residents seemed friendly, and the campus felt warm
and comfortable.

“I moved in real easily and have enjoyed it ever since,” Marilyn, pictured in the center of the photo above, says.

Today, Heritage House is home. Her daughter visits often. Family celebrations happen there. At a recent Valentine’s Day party, Marilyn’s grandson was "the life of the party.”

Watching her family feel welcomed and included in her life brings her pride. “The people who work here are so welcoming to the families,” she says. “It makes me feel proud to have my family be a part of my life here.”

“I want to stay here forever”

Marilyn’s apartment isn’t large or opulent. But it’s filled with things she loves. To her, it's just right.

“If I didn’t live here, I don’t know what I’d do,” she says. “If I had to leave here, my life would not be as good. I want to stay here forever.”

For residents at Heritage House, that kind of security is not accidental. Through generous gifts to the community’s Good Samaritan Fund, the WesleyLife Promise ensures that if a resident’s financial resources are depleted through no fault of their own, they will never be asked to leave their home or experience a reduction in care.

When Marilyn talks with others about the Promise, she is comforted by it.

“When I hear that those of us who love it here won’t ever have to leave, that just makes one less worry,” Marilyn says.

“Growing older isn’t always easy. You lose people you love. It’s nice to hear those of us who live here — well, we won’t ever have to lose each other.”
