Illini Restorative Care Awarded Top Medicare-Medicaid Rating accent

August 13, 2020 | By

Illini Restorative Care (IRC), a short-term rehabilitation and long-term nursing care community in Silvis, is the metro Quad Cities’ only campus to be designated a 5-star health center by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The federal agency announced the designation during publication last week of its most recent set of ratings.

CMS identifies the 5-star designation – its highest award – as indicating that the quality of care the community provides is “much above average.” Prior to this ratings period, the community had been awarded 4 stars, indicating “above average” care and services.

“This verifies what we’ve long known – that the exceptional level of care and clinical expertise that have been cultivated at IRC can make a real difference in the lives of the individuals who place their trust in us,” Rob Kretzinger, CEO of WesleyLife, said. WellSpire was formed earlier this year via a partnership between WesleyLife of Johnston, Iowa, and Genesis Health System of Davenport.

“The rating is more than just a number; if someone is making a decision between two campuses for short-term rehabilitation or long-term care, the designation makes that choice much easier.”

IRC serves as many as 120 residents in a community that, along with sister independent living campus Crosstown Square Apartments, is part of WellSpire’s trio of providers of services to those 55 and older. The others are Westwing Place in DeWitt, Iowa, and, opening in early 2021, The Summit of Bettendorf in Bettendorf, Iowa.

The campuses came under the auspices of WellSpire on July 1 of this year. IRC first opened its doors in 1968 as a community hospital serving Rock Island County. The hospital became part of Genesis Health System in 1996, creating the Quad Cities’ first bi-state integrated health system.

Today, IRC offers physical, occupational, and speech therapy for individuals transitioning from hospital stays, in addition to providing an environment for those needing long-term clinical care. The community’s short-term rehabilitation environment is differentiated in the market by, among other amenities, therapy involving virtual reality and cutting-edge technology and equipment.

“Our comprehensive rehabilitative care is designed to facilitate shorter, more effective stays,” Kretzinger says. “Our numbers bear that out; our average length of stay in short-term rehabilitation is 16 days, and our most recent monthly readmission rate was just over 3 percent.

“Our goal is to make it so the people we serve don’t have to go back to the hospital – and that, after they leave us, they continue to grow stronger at home.”

IRC is currently welcoming individuals who are seeking physical, occupational, and/or physical therapy after a hospital stay, as well as those who require long-term nursing care. To learn more or to arrange a private tour, contact the community at (309) 281-3270.
