A New Chapter Begins: The Village Breaks Ground on $49.5 Million Redevelopment

Wednesday, June 4, was a day to remember at The Village, a WesleyLife Community in Indianola, as WesleyLife team members, residents, clients, and friends gathered to break ground and officially launch the capital campaign supporting The Village's transformative $49.5 million redevelopment.

This milestone marks the beginning of the most significant redevelopment project in WesleyLife history — one designed to enhance quality of life for those who call The Village home today and for generations yet to come.

A Celebration of Community and Vision

The program featured voices from across The Village, WesleyLife, and beyond, each sharing their unique perspective on what this investment means for Indianola, the 35-year-old Village campus, and the future of aging well:

  • Heather Frank, executive director of The Village, welcomed guests and offered a heartfelt reflection on the meaning of the moment.

  • Rob Kretzinger, top, president and CEO of WesleyLife, spoke about the organization's history, philosophy of services and care, foundational pillars, and vision for the future.

  • Jill Rossiter, president of The Village Resident Association, shared what “community” means from the inside.

  • Kevin Halterman, president and CEO of Peoples Bank in Indianola and chairman of the Village Capital Campaign, reflected on The Village’s connection to the greater Indianola area and explained his commitment to the campaign, which is helping to fund the project.

  • Christine Soma, principal with Pope Design Group, offered a look at what’s to come with the redevelopment process.

  • Rich Willis, above, owner and chairman of Willis Automotive, WesleyLife board member, and honorary capital campaign chair, shared his passion for the WesleyLife mission and his personal ties to Indianola and The Village, and called upon attendees to support the $2 million capital campaign, which represents the community investment needed to compete the project.

A Message from Heather Frank

Executive director Heather Frank captured the heart of the day in her remarks:

“This redevelopment represents more than updated buildings or new amenities — it is a powerful investment in the future of those we serve, and those we will serve in the years to come. These improvements will enhance daily life for current residents while making space to welcome future generations of Villagers.

"As we look forward to welcoming new residents, we’re reminded of the importance of hospitality. Scripture tells us, 'Welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God’ (Romans 15:7). That spirit of welcome is woven into everything we do.

"In 2021, during The Village’s 30th anniversary celebration, resident Gordon Bivens offered a reminder we hold dear: ‘Do not retire FROM — retire TO.’ This community has always been a place of purpose and possibility, and today’s celebration affirms our commitment to that legacy.”

Looking Ahead

As construction begins, WesleyLife is energized by what lies ahead: enhanced amenities, new living options, and spaces designed to support connection, health, and joy. We’re grateful for everyone who joined us to celebrate — and for all who continue to support our mission. Together, we are building something remarkable!
