Shining a Light on Alzheimer’s: Honoring The Longest Day at WesleyLife

Written by Lisa Ryan, Communications Lead | June 20, 2025

Each year on the summer solstice — the day with the most light — communities around the world come together to support The Longest Day, a global awareness initiative of the Alzheimer’s Association. On this symbolic day, we pause to honor the strength, resilience, and courage of those living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, as well as the families and care partners who support them.

At WesleyLife, we envision becoming the most dynamic and inclusive champion for individuals who are aging, and that includes those affected by memory loss. Our participation in The Longest Day is more than a gesture; it’s a reflection of our unwavering commitment to providing dignity, support, and quality care for individuals facing cognitive decline.

Dressed in purple — the color of Alzheimer’s awareness — team members at our organizational headquarters in Johnston stood together this morning to “shine a light” on this important cause.

Dedicated to outcomes

“People living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias and their caretakers need to know they are supported and thought of every day, and awareness events like this are important because they keep those individuals at the forefront,” Karie Kesterson-Gibson, director of clinical excellence for WesleyLife, says.

“At WesleyLife, our communities and services are dedicated to the highest quality of service to people with dementia. We are grateful for the trust placed in us by the families of these residents and clients, and our team members work hard every day on their behalf.”

While a cure for Alzheimer’s has yet to be found, each act of awareness brings us closer to a future without the disease. WesleyLife is proud to stand alongside the Alzheimer’s Association and organizations across the globe in shining a light — on this day and every day — on the realities of dementia and the hope that drives our work in the memory care space.
