Krueger received the Excellence in Memory Care Innovation Award, a national honor recognizing leaders who are redefining cognitive care delivery across the aging services continuum.
“Teresa embodies visionary leadership and a deep commitment to compassionate care,” Janet Simpson, vice president of network operations for WesleyLife, said. “Through her work at Brio’s Elan Cottage, she has built a nationally recognized household where dignity, joy, and purpose are daily realities for those living with dementia.
“Teresa’s recognition is a reflection of the profound impact she has had on countless families, team members, and the very future of memory support at WesleyLife.”
Excellence in Care
Under Krueger’s leadership, Brio became the first and only community in Iowa to achieve the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America’s Excellence in Care distinction. She has pioneered non-pharmacological, person-centered approaches, introduced innovative tools such as Lucynt technology and individualized life story kits, and fostered a culture of empathy and creativity that transforms the memory care experience.
Her influence extends beyond Brio. She mentors future leaders, advocates for families, and has championed system-wide practices across WesleyLife, from therapeutic pet engagement to sensory-focused interventions.
“Teresa’s leadership doesn’t just guide; it transforms,” Simpson said. “We are deeply proud to see her honored on a national stage.”
As part of the award, Krueger has been invited to take part in the BUILD & BRAIN Conference in Dallas, Texas, in November. The event convenes thought leaders in memory care to share innovations and shape the future of aging in America.
