Free Memory Screenings

Since 2013, we’ve offered free memory screenings at all WesleyLife communities on National Memory Screening Day, sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America. The mid-November program is designed to help people take charge of their brain health and take steps to maintain or improve brain fitness.

Brain Fitness

A growing body of research is making it clear that regular brain and physical exercise can create important benefits for cognitive health and even reduce the risk of mental decline. To promote this important aspect of health and well-being, WesleyLife offers an innovative technology called Dakim BrainFitness at all seven of its senior living communities.

Certified as clinically proven by the U.S. Administration on Aging, Dakim technology offers a series of creative, entertaining exercises to strengthen memory, focus and concentration. With just 20 minutes of brain exercises a day, participants can experience the positive effects of a sharper mind.

Studies show that cognitive exercise can delay the most serious memory loss for people already diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment. With Dakim, they can improve memory and language in the short term and better manage symptoms in the long term.

WesleyLife piloted Dakim BrainFitness at Edgewater in West Des Moines a decade ago and expanded the offering to its other communities with a Quality Improvement Grant from the Iowa Department of Human Services, Iowa Medicaid Enterprise.
