Life-altering diagnosis is no match for Edgewater resident, 92

WesleyLife communities are home to vibrant, active residents who are always thinking and planning ahead – even when life throws roadblocks in their paths.

In 2017, Duane Sandage, an Independent Living resident at Edgewater in West Des Moines, was diagnosed with a rare cancer and given three weeks to three months to live.

Today, at 92, he’s going strong – in fact, he works a few days a week at his longtime farm real-estate business. He attributes his health to a lifetime commitment to physical fitness, a joyful mindset, and, most of all, a strong faith.

“Everything in my life is by the grace of God, and I don’t know how a person could go through life without believing in Him,” Duane says.

Whether you’re looking for Independent Living or Assisted Living, don’t make a decision until you’ve toured Edgewater. Our resort lifestyle is second to none – and unique to the Metro area, our Assisted Living apartments can be leased month-to-month and don’t require an entrance fee!
