You and Sodium

As you know, Wesley Meals on Wheels provides low-salt, low-fat, heart-healthy meals. But, what does "low sodium" mean? According to the Federal Dietary Guidelines, low sodium is considered consuming less-than or equal-to 1,000 milligrams of sodium per day, based on a weekly average of the meals consumed.

The freshly prepared Meals on Wheels meals consist of only one-third of the calories and nutrients of the recommended daily allowances, so it's important if you are watching sodium intake to consider all foods consumed each day.

For more information low sodium diets consult with your physician. For additional information vist www.mayoclinic.com. View dietary guidelines for Americans at www.health.gov, or the Department of Elder Affairs at www.state.ia.us/elderaffairs
