Compassion in Action

When Phil and Martha Dorweiler made the decision to move to a villa at the new WesleyLife Edgewater community in West Des Moines, they were looking for a place that offered a true sense of community. What they found was beyond what they could have imagined.

From the first day, the couple felt at home. And when Martha was diagnosed with advanced cancer shortly after the move, Phil says they could not have been in a better place.

"Being at Edgewater was a great thing," Phil says. "We were able to access hospice early on and they were wonderful."

Phil is grateful to the hospice staff for the way they were able to manage Martha's pain and help her maintain dignity in her final days. "Dignity is so important," Phil says. "They paid attention to the little things, like being sure her hair was done and she was comfortable. It gives the survivor so much peace of mind."

The staff so impressed Phil in such a difficult time that he is now a regular donor to WesleyLife Hopsice.

"They face death everyday and handle it so well," Phil says of the hospice staff. "Having them there is invaluable."
